ABOUT PROMIXER.
Creative Labs created "SBP-MIX.EXE", to change the settings
on the mixer-chip. But I still don't know why they made it
a TSR. Each time I executed sbp-mix, I had to type sbp-mix /u
to get it out of the base-memory. And : the user-interface is
far from 'good looking'. With this program you have all the volume
and filter settings on one screen.
//***********************************************************************//
SETTING VOLUMES.
You will see two vertical scrollbars on the left side. Next to these
scrollbars you will a row of five buttons. If one of these buttons is
pressed (MASTER is default) you can change the volume of the
corresponding device.
The left scrollbar controls the left channel volume, the right scrollbar
the right channel volume. If you have selected MIC or CD you will see
that you cannot control seperate channels. This is because the Mixer-chip
on the SoundBlaster PRO does not support stereo input for these devices.
You can change the volume in two ways :
1. Use the up- and down arrows of the scrollbars;
2. Click somewhere in the scrollbars and the volume will be
changed to this position at once.
If you want to change the volume of both left and right channels at the
same time, click in the button between the two scrollbars ("lock").
The lock-button will become red, meaning that the left- and right
scrollbars are connected with eachother (default lock = off).
Below the five-button row you will see two buttons : "all max." and
"all min.". If you want to set all volumes to zero press "all min.".
If you want to do the opposite, set all volumes to maximum values, use
"all max."
//***********************************************************************//
SETTING FILTERS
In the upper right corner of PROMIXER you will see three buttons below
eachother. You can set them on or off by clicking in the text or in the
button.
Output filter : If this filter is ON (the button is red), more brightness
will be added to all digitized sounds.
Input filter : If this filter is ON (the button is red), a filter will
be used on the input signal.
Stereo Output : If this mode is ON (the button is red), the input and
output is stereo, otherwise mono (unless you use stereo
samples).
//***********************************************************************//
SELECTING THE INPUT DEVICE
This happens automatically when you select MIC, LINE or CD. If you want
to record from LINE-IN, just press "line" and correct the left and right
volume so that the input-signal isn't too loud, using the scope (see
below). Then press "ready" to exit PROMIXER.
//***********************************************************************//
USING THE SCOPE
The scope gives a graphical representation of the input signal which comes
from one of the selected input devices (MIC, LINE or CD). If you have
selected "FM" or "MASTER" the yellow line will disappear. If the wave hits
either the upper or the lower edge of the scope window continuously, the
input signal is too loud. In this case you should adjust the input volume
using the scrollbars.
